Our Story

At 6ix-cess Foods, our story starts with a simple belief: good food should nourish not just our bodies, but also our communities. We are a worker-owned cooperative formed by a group of passionate individuals—many of whom have faced barriers to employment due to the criminal legal system—who came together with a vision for something better.

We saw the gaps in the food system firsthand: schools and food banks struggling to find nutritious, allergen-conscious snacks that meet their needs; neighborhoods on Chicago’s South Side lacking access to healthy, affordable food options; and talented people impacted by incarceration, locked out of meaningful work opportunities.

6ix-cess was born to change that. Through Grab-a-bites, our line of wholesome, nut-free, kid-approved snacks, we’re meeting the demand for better options while creating jobs, building skills, and keeping wealth in the community. Every bite helps create a pathway to economic equity, food justice, and community ownership.

By centering purpose in everything we do—from sourcing local ingredients to building a cooperative that puts workers first—we’re not just making snacks. We’re building a more just food system, where those most impacted by injustice have the power to create solutions for themselves and their neighbors. 6ix-cess Foods is proof that with creativity, cooperation, and commitment, we can turn challenges into opportunities—and build a food future that nourishes us all.
